SURGERY

Neutering and Spaying

We strongly recommend surgical neutering and spaying of all pet dogs and cats, that are not showing or being used for breeding. The best time for spay and neuter is between five and six months of age. Pre-anesthetic testing, perioperative pain medications, inhalant anesthetics, anesthetic monitoring and an experienced surgical team ensure that your pet is in good hands at the WAC.

Oral Surgery

Many pets undergoing dental cleaning will also need teeth extracted due to severe periodontal disease, deep cavities or fractured crowns. We are experienced in evaluating teeth visually and with X-rays, and in safely extracting teeth and their roots. Treatment of pain is an important component of oral surgery and we combine narcotics, NSAIDS, and local anesthetics when indicated to make your pet as comfortable as possible before, during and after oral surgery.

Pulse Oximetry

All animals undergoing general anesthesia at the WAC are continually monitored with instruments that measure their pulse rate and the level of oxygen in their blood. This allows us to precisely regulate the level of anesthesia and keep them as safe as possible.

SPECIAL SERVICES

Avian and Exotic Medicine and Surgery

Dr. Baghdoyan has twenty years of experience treating a wide variety of exotic and pocket pets. Birds, ferrets, hamsters, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, and reptiles of all stripes are welcome. If we can't treat your exotic pet, we will be happy to refer you to a veterinarian who can.

House Calls

Some pets just don't travel well. Some households have so many pets that a trip to the veterinarian becomes a chore. For these clients we offer weekday morning house calls by appointment (within a reasonable radius of Williamsburg) for routine services such as wellness exams and vaccinations.

SPECIALISTS

Ultrasound, Endoscopy, and Internal Medicine Consultation

Dr. Elizabeth Shaker, DACVIM, is available by appointment at the WAC for consultation on internal medical cases, ultrasound evaluations of the thorax or abdomen and endoscopy of the upper or lower GI tracts.

Orthopedics, Soft Tissue Surgery

Dr. Michael Frost, formerly staff surgeon at the MSPCA Rowley (Angel West) Hospital, is avilable at the WAC by appointment for orthopedic or soft tissue procedures. Cruciate repair, femoral head excision, triple pelvic osteotomy, bone plating, ear canal ablation, and splenectomy are some of the specialty surgeries he has performed in our surgical suite.
